Human Rights Act Seminars
and
Study Guide

Seminars

The Department for Constitutional Affairs has held a number training seminars in 2004 for public services on the implications of the Human Rights Act 1998. Dates and locations for 2005 seminars have not been confirmed.

A recent bulletin from District Audit reports that many local and health authorities are not responding appropriately to the Act. It warns that failure to do so could prove very expensive: proven breaches could lead to the award of damages, civil remedies and copycat claims.

The Act impacts on the work of many front-line services including: social services, planning, housing and education.

Attendance at the seminars is free-of-charge. They are open to any organisation and will consist of an introductionary session, followed by a presentation and will end with a syndicate exercise. A standard seminar agenda word.gif [20 kb] is available.
