When the Human Rights Act 1998 came into force on 2 October 2000, a limited number of rules and practice directions were also introduced. These rules and practice directions cover:
How the case law of the European Court of Human Rights at Strasbourg should be cited at hearings.
Procedures for notifying the Crown where the High Court or above is considering making a declaration of incompatibility.
Procedures for dealing with claims brought under the Human Rights Act alone rather than in existing proceedings.
Joining the Crown to proceedings where an award of Article 5 damages is to be made against it, and ensuring that such proceedings are heard in the appropriate court.
